List Of Audacity Plugins With Description

Audacity uses plugins to get specific audio effects

Normalization

Normalization makes the volume even. The goal is to keep the volume level. The listener should not have to strain or adjust volume to hear it, unless ambient conditions change.
Use the built- in Audacity Normalize effect or plugin to level the amplitude of a track and/or equalize the left and right channels of a stereo track.
The built-in Audacity version has a "remove  DC offset" from the track.  It's a very good idea to uncheck the "normalize peak db" and leave "remove DC offset" selected to remove offset, if any before doing any other editing.

Clipping
You're going to have an idea what your level should be when you export your audio for use. It depends on what you prefer or if exporting to another user or service, what they have stipulated. No big deal.
However you don't want to maximize the level before other editing is done. You need headroom, that is, enough space over and under the waveform for other effects to increase gain without having the waveform exceed the track limit. At that point, the signal cannot be increased any more, so the detail of the loud parts are lost, causing a scratchy distorted sound which is impossible to fully repair and easy to prevent.

Amplify: Increases or decreases the volume of the audio you have selected.
Auto Duck: Reduces the volume of one or more tracks whenever the volume of a specified "control" track reaches a particular level. Makes a music track softer when voice content begins.
Compressor: Compresses the dynamic range by two alternative methods. The default "RMS" method makes the louder parts softer, but leaves the quieter audio alone. The alternative "peaks" method makes the entire audio louder, but amplifies the louder parts less than the quieter parts. Make-up gain can be applied to either method, making the result as loud as possible without clipping, but not changing the dynamic range further.
Limitera: Limiter passes signals below a specified input level unaffected or gently reduced, while preventing the peaks of stronger signals from exceeding this threshold. Mastering engineers often use this type of dynamic range compression combined with make-up gain to increase the perceived loudness of an audio recording during the audio mastering process.
Normalize:

Fade a section in or fade it out
Crossfade Clips: Use Crossfade Clips to apply a simple crossfade to a selected pair of clips in a single audio track.
Crossfade Tracks: Use Crossfade Tracks to make a smooth transition between two overlapping tracks one above the other. Place the track to be faded out above the track to be faded in then select the overlapping region in both tracks and apply the effect.
