Cheap Voiceover Microphones

My CAD U37 on the job
The CAD U37 is a very cheap but very useful USB mic

It has a low cut filter and -10db pad, with the controls on the front.  The low cut filter reduces the low frequency noise produced by mechanical vibrations and wind. The pad prevents clipping and distortion from loud sources like amplified instruments and drums

The CAD U37 USB mic is almost exclusively made of plastic, which makes it light and it feels like a cheap toy in your hands. The grilles are metal and are sufficient to protect the capsule.

The stand has spindly foldable legs can barely handle the mic’s weight. I use a clamp on desk mic stand with pop shield when using the CAD U37. It was my first purchase and my wife uses it now for podcasting.

CAD U37 is a large diaphragm  electret condenser with a cardioid pick up pattern and USB output. It's plug and play and requires no drivers. Cardioid pick up helps to capture only what’s in front on the mic while rejecting room and ambient noise.
